Army Veteran S.E. Le Roy Returns with a Third Novel in Her Dark Fantasy Saga, The Secrets of Morrow

SANDPOINT, ID, UNITED STATES, September 22, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — A single sketch and a dream later that same night laid the foundation for a fantasy series about the thin line between heroes and villains.

Dark fantasy author S.E. Le Roy has widened the world of The Secrets of Morrow. It’s her series about morally grey characters and the stories victors tell about themselves. Two novels are already being obsessed over by readers; now a third, The Shades of Fate, arrives soon to close out the saga.
The series began with a picture the author drew herself over a decade ago.

“I looked at it and thought this would be a pretty cool fantasy terrain,” said Le Roy. “That evening, I had a dream about star-crossed twins, where one gets sacrificed so the chosen sister could live. I woke up reeling from what that implied, and I started writing.”

Life then pulled her away from the desk. A medical discharge from the US Army sent her from Washington to Florida, where she started a small family and took on odd jobs to make ends meet. The manuscript went into a box and stayed there for years.

It resurfaced after a divorce brought her east and into a new home.
“I unpacked the last box and found the picture again,” she said. “My husband told me to keep going with it, so I did. Those pages turned into an outlet for some genuinely terrible experiences from my past. Finishing the book felt as though the hopes for my entire future went to print with it.”

A question that followed her home
Le Roy grew up in a rural community, restless and curious about whatever was past the horizon she knew. She enlisted looking for purpose and a doorway into the wider world. Thus, her service in Afghanistan reshaped how she understood courage and loyalty.
Long after her discharge, one question lingered, and so she explores it in every chapter she writes: What makes someone a villain when history belongs to the victor?

About the series

The Secrets of the Morrow opens the series and introduces Leah, a heroine who keeps her true motives hidden. Le Roy wrote her that way on purpose, letting readers judge Leah for themselves as they compare her with her sister.
The Destruction of Layla was born from the bond the author formed with a character while writing the first book. Layla is tough and driven with a hunger for love that shapes the road ahead of her. The character pulled at Le Roy so hard that she began writing the second novel before finishing the first.
The Shades of Fate brings the story around full circle. It’s moody and cinematic, as it redirects the war that was set in motion by the first novel and closes out her favorite character’s, Layla’s, arc.
Le Roy warns readers that her characters pitch toward darker morals and asks them to enter at their own risk. Trigger warnings fall outside what she offers. Readers who welcome ambiguity, however, will find plenty here to chew over.

S.E. Le Roy is a US Army veteran and dark fantasy author whose work probes identity, villainy, and the fractures between truth and perspective. She holds a master’s degree in business management with a focus on organizational design and development. She works as a sales representative for an organization she speaks warmly about.
“I’m short, I run my mouth for a living, and I’m very upfront about who I am and where I come from,” she said. “My characters get treated the same way.”
